The on-line survey was available from January 19, 2012 to February 18, 2012 and a total of 119 completed surveys were received. The public provided extensive and insightful feedback that assisted in identifying issues experienced. While following the direction provided by the Comox Valley Regional District board the feedback received would be incorporated in drafting the Mt. Washington integrated resort community plan. Thank you to all that provided their feedback and took part in the imported initial steps of this project.
Mount Washington IRCP
The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) has recently commissioned the preparation of the Mount Washington Integrated Resort Community Plan (IRCP). The project will be carried out by CTQ Consultants Ltd (Engineering, Planning and Urban Design) out of Kelowna, BC. The main intent of this planning exercise is to build upon and update the current Mt. Washington Local Area Plan with recent CVRD strategies and policy direction and complement it with public input. The CVRD Regional Growth Strategy for the Valley has recognized the Mount Washington area as a new settlement node. As such, many policies must be updated or created to address important matters such as land use, community services, infrastructure, transportation, the environment, design guidelines and the need to adapt to climate change. It is appreciated that all of the land at the resort is privately owned (unlike many other mountain resorts in BC) but the regional district has the responsibility to manage development under the auspices of the Local Government Act of BC. In order to produce a plan that can help inform more detailed planning, design and ultimately development, the CVRD wishes to ensure that key stakeholders, government agencies, the land owners and operators, along with the general public/users, are engaged and consulted and are able to express their opinions about this growing settlement node.
( NOTE: the IRCP is not a master plan for the resort but will help inform secondary planning and design decisions in the future; it will also capture the vision of the resort owners and users to comprehensively develop this resort/settlement node of the Comox Valley.) Updates
This designated website will be used to provide any updates on outcomes, meetings and public engagement / consultation relative to this planning exercise. Comments offered about the plan or plan area will be via Mt.WashingtonIRCP@Comoxvalleyrd.ca Facebook and Twitter and will be acknowledged as input or feedback. Various drafts of the IRCP will be posted on this
website; maps or figures to assist with communication will be used wherever possible. Any key milestones or dates will be announced through this website or via the Comox Valley Regional District website. Periodic updates will occur from December to May, 2012, or completion date.
